Newman Portal Hosts Back Issues of the ILNA Digest
The Newman Numismatic Portal (NewmanPortal.org) is sponsored by the Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society and administered by Washington University in St. Louis. Launched in 2014, the site hosts over 80,000 numismatic documents with a page count exceeding six million. Users will find auction sale catalogs, periodicals, and reference literature on a wide array of numismatic topics. Site access is completely free, and no registration is required.
Newman Portal acts a community driven repository, with contributions coming from auction houses, individual dealers, coin clubs, and other interested collectors. As an example, Stack’s Bowers has granted permission to present their auction sale catalogs – going back to 1935 – over a thousand catalogs in all!
Back issues of the ILNA Digest are located on Newman Portal at https://nnp.wustl.edu/library/publisherdetail/517446. We are missing a few scattered issues, particularly from the 1970s, and will be grateful to any ILNA members who can loan issues for scanning. Newman Portal acknowledges John Kent, Bruce Perdue, Jack Huggins, and Bill Burd for their assistance with this title.
ILNA members, especially those in southern Illinois, may recall the Newman Money Museum, which was hosted at Washington University from 2006-2018 in the Kemper Art building. While the museum was closed in 2018, we continue to feature numismatic exhibits in Olin Library, located on the Danforth campus of Washington University. The current exhibit, Forging a Nation: The Founding of the U.S. Mint, 1792, includes documents related to the founding of the United States Mint, loaned by Dan Hamelberg. This exhibit runs through July 13. Further information is posted at https://library.wustl.edu/exhibitions/forging-a-nation/.
